- Many different medical based studies related to alcohol have reported that women absorb and metabolize alcohol much differently than men; thus rendering women more vulnerable than men to alcohol-induced liver, heart and brain damage.
- Alcohol is broken down by the liver at the rate of approximately one unit per hour (a pint of normal strength beer being two units). As a result, it is possible to still be under the influence of alcohol the following morning.
- Individuals who start drinking alcohol before the age of 15 are twice as likely to develop an abuse problem and four times as likely to develop alcoholism, versus those who do not begin drinking before age 21.
- Underage drinking can harm the growing brain. Today we know that the brain continues to develop from birth through the adolescent years and into the mid 20s.
